Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy and Kurunegala are the districts with over one million voters each, according to voter registration figures released by the Election Commission today.
Accordingly the Gampaha district has the highest votes in the country with 1.8 million registered voters followed by Colombo district 1.7 million votes and Kurunegala district 1.4 million.
The other two district which have more than one million voters each are the Kandy and Kalutara districts with 1.1 million and one million.
The other districts with high voters are Ratnapura (923,736), Galle (903,163), Anuradhapura 741,862), Kegalle (709,622) Matara (686,175) and Puttalalam 663,673.
The total number of voters eligible to vote for the upcoming elections will be 17,140,354.
The Chairman of the Election Commission R.M.A.L Ratnayake today met with heads of Media institutions and Editors to discuss the Media guidelines to be implemented.
He said that all perpetrations were now underway for the election.
