Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath, who is in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to attend the 25 UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) General Assembly, extended his congratulations to Shaikha Al Nowais on her appointment as the new Secretary General of UN Tourism.
"On the sidelines of the 26th UNWTO General Assembly in Riyadh, I extended my sincere congratulations to Shaikha Al Nowais on her appointment as the new Secretary General of UN Tourism, effective from 2026 , the first woman to hold this position in the Organization’s 50-year history," Minister Herath said on X.
