At least 31 people have been killed and fourteen others reported missing in landslides reported in three districts in the country, officials said. The incidents have been reported in the Badulla, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
Among them, four fatalities were reported in Wala pane, Nuwera Eliya. Four individuals are reported missing in the Ududumbara and Patha Hewaheta areas.
Meanwhile, the floods also had destroyed several thousand acres of paddy lands in East and Polannaruwa districts.
According to the Department of Meteorology the entire island will experience the highest rainfall seen in recent history.
The National Building Research Organisation has said the data reveals areas like Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Matale, and Kandy are currently receiving rainfall exceeding 300 mm or 400 mm.
Red alerts for landslides have been issued for Badulla, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matale, Monaragala, and Nuwara Eliya by the National Building Research Organisation.
The Examination Department have decided not to conduct the exams scheduled for today (27), tomorrow (28), and the day after tomorrow (29).
The Examination Commissioner General AKS Indika Kumari Liyanage said that the exams for the subjects scheduled on those three days will now be held on December 7, 8, and 9, while other subjects will be conducted according to the previously fixed timetable.
