A travel ban imposed on the former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal who has been accused of mismanagement of the economy was today extended and was granted bail of Rs one million each with two sureties.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunuwala extended the travel ban on Mr Cabraal until November 24.
The case has been filed on a complaint lodged by former Governor Ranjith Keerthi Tennakoon,
Mr Cabraal was present in courts today on summons issued to him .
Mr Tennakoon in his complaint that Mr Cabraal should be held responsible for the mismanagement of the economy while holding the Governor Central Bank position from 2006 to 2014 and therefore should be charged under the Public Property Act.
Sampath Tennakoon, PC representing Mr Cabraal raising preliminary objections said that the case should be dismissed on the grounds that a similar complaint had been filed in the Court of Appeal and has been turned down.
However, Maithri Gunaratne, PC appearing on behalf of the complainant said , however, the Supreme Court has issued notice on Mr Cabraal and that his action has led the country to a poverty stricken country.
