Former Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on allegations of misappropriating public funds and produced in courts was released on bail.
Colombo Chief Magistrate A.S. Bodaragama ordered that the suspect be released on a cash bail of Rs. 100,000 and two surety bails of Rs. 500,000 each.
Mr Ranatunga was arrested on allegations that he unlawfully appointed a private brokering firm for direct medical insurance coverage provided to employees in four institutions under the Ministry of Tourism while he was the minister.
The commission alleged that his action caused a financial loss of Rs. 4,7 million to the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation.
The case will be taken up again on January 16, 2026.
