A former Chairman of the Welimada Pradeshiya Sabha has been arrested on charges of engaging in criminal intimidation against police officers.
The alleged incident had occurred in Keppetipola town on October 24, where two police officers who were engaged in providing security and directing traffic were subjected to criminal intimidation by the former Welimada PS Chairman.
The suspect had fled the area after the incident and Welimada Police had been conducting investigations to arrest him. He surrendered to the Welimada Magistrate's Court yesterday (20), where he was ordered to be placed in remand custody till December 4.
The suspect PS Chairman is a 60-year-old resident of Keppetipola. Welimada Police are investigating.
