The United Postal Trade Unions’ Front will launch a 48-hour token strike from midnight today (7).
Co-convener of United Postal Trade Unions’ Front Chinthaka Bandara said that the intent of the protest was against the government’s decision to sell the postal offices in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.
Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardena announced this morning that plans to hand over the Nuwara Eliya Post Office, an iconic building, to the Taj Samudra Hotel as a hotel project are underway.
Meanwhile, the Postmaster General said that leave of all postal workers cancelled on November 8, 9 and 10.
