The Commissioner General of Excise has interdicted four Excise Officers who have been arrested for allegedly assaulting and soliciting a bribe from a 'Beedi' manufacturer in Walasmulla.
The Excise Commissioner General has interdicted the officers on the instructions of State Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.
The four officers, who include the Officer-in-Charge of the Tangalle Excise Department Unit, were arrested by police on charges of demanding a bribe from the beedi manufacturer not to take legal action against him for keeping beedi leaves without a license.
