Four persons were arrested and gold weighing about six kilogrammes were seized by Customs officers at the arrival terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today (27).
Customs Media Spokesman Seevali Arukgoda said three women and one man arrived from Dubai in two different flights (FZ 569 and UL 226) and were arrested while attempting to smuggle gold into the country.
He said the value of the 30 gold biscuits and jewellery is about Rs.123 million.
The suspects, all residents of Colombo, had arrived with jewellery and gold biscuits hidden in their clothes and hand luggages. According to Customs, the four fly frequently and are involved in various businesses.
He said Customs is conducting investigation into the smuggle attempt.
