Fourth anniversary of Easter Attacks marked with silent protests and prayer services

The fourth anniversary of the Easter Sunday attacks were marked today with silent protests, prayer services and processions in several parts of the country.

As scheduled by the Catholic Church, various observances took place this morning and last night at many parts of the Island remembering the lost lives by this attack.

Yesterday, there was a prayer march from Katuwapitiya Church to Kochchikade  St Anthony’s shrine. Many devotees engaged in this march. Commencing at 6.00 pm with Holy Mass at St. Sebastian’s Church Katuwapitiya and then followed with the march to St. Anthony’s Church Kochchikade.

Large crowds attended the silent protests while a two-minute silence was observed at 8.45 .

Vigil services were held in many churches islandwide, followed by the  silent protest on the two sides of the Negombo – Colombo main road as well as the Galle road upto Beruwala with some of them holding of banners by the people expressing their grievances for this attack and demanding Justice.

‘Human Chain’ the concept introduced by the Cardinal was dominantly visible by these silent protests.Additional security was provided around churches.

Two hundred and seventy two persons were killed in the multiple attacks on April 21 while over 500 were injured.
