Four ships belong to the French, Bangladesh and Indian navies arrived in Colombo and Hambantota on official visits yesterday. Sri Lanka Navy welcomed the visiting ships in precision with naval tradition.
The Support and Assistance Ship ‘Loire’ of the French Navy arrived at the port of Colombo on 08th March and BNS ‘Prottasha’, a Corvette of the Bangladesh Navy reached Colombo on March 9. Besides, INS ‘Talwar’ and ‘Brahmaputra’, a duo of Frigates serving in the Indian Navy also arrived at the port of Hambantota, Navy said.
Meanwhile, the Commanding Officer of BNS ‘Prottasha’, Commander Mohammad Golam Kibria called on Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Upul De Silva at the Western Naval Command Headquarters. Similarly, the Commanding Officers of INS ‘Talwar’ and ‘Brahmaputra’ – Captain Partha U Bhatt and Captain Venkatesh R Iyer called on Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sajith Gamage.
Further, the French Navy Ship as well as two Frigates of the Indian Navy will conduct separate naval exercises with the Sri Lanka Navy as part of their official visit.
All proceedings relating to the visits of these ships will be carried out adhering to COVID-19 protocols. Concluding their visits, the French Navy Ship ‘Loire’ (on 12th March) and BNS ‘Prottasha’ as well as INS ‘Talwar’ and ‘Brahmaputra’ (on 11th March) are expected to depart the island.
