An extraordinary gazette notification has been issued by the Ministry of Finance lifting the import restrictions imposed on specific vehicles used for public transportation.
In view of this, import restrictions on buses, lorries, tankers, bowsers and trucks have been relaxed.
Simultaneously, a proposal put forward by President Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies, to relax the import ban on many other items has also been given approval by the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday.
The Gazette has been released in the face of a wide array of warnings by Economic Analysts on adverse effects on import restrictions.
On this account, guidelines declared under the Import and Export (Control) Act No. 1 are expected to be forwarded to Parliament shortly.
