Supreme courts issued notice on former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today to make submissions in December over the decision to grant presidential pardon to former MP Duminda Silva.
CID arrested former parliamentarian in June 2022, while he was receiving treatment at Sri Jayawardenapura hospital. He was re arrested after he was given a presidential pardon by Gotabaya Rajapaksa
Mr Silva who was the Chairman of the National Housing Development Authority at the time was arrested after the Supreme Court suspended his presidential pardon with immediate effect and ordered his immediate arrest.
He was sentenced to death on September 8, 2016 for shooting dead four people, including former parliamentarian Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra in October 2011.
