The government has planned to carry out the funeral ceremony of Most Venerable Welamitiyawe Kusaladamma Thera with government patronage, Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs said.
The late Most Venerable Welamitiyawe Kusaladamma Thera who was the chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, and Judicial Sanganayaka of Colombo and Chillaw passed away yesterday (28) at the age of 85.
The Thera who was also the chief incumbent of the Peliyagoda Vidyalankara Pirivena had carried out a great service for the betterment of the Buddha sasana in this country.
The Cremation ceremony of the late monk will be held under government patronage with the advice of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Ministry said that they would announce the date for the funeral ceremony on a later date.
