The Import and Export Control Department has issued a gazette notification temporarily reversing the ban on chemical fertiliser and allowing the import of Nitrogen extracts and Potassium.
This is under the recommendation of the Department of Agriculture and the Fertiliser Secretariat of the Ministry of Agriculture.
This action has been taken as a temporary measure to ease difficulties faced by farmers due to current scarcity of fertiliser and the government will stick to its decision of banning the import of in organic fertiliser, Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said.
He added that the importation will be carried out in a transparent manner without any irregularities and this action has been taken as a solution to the current problems of framers.
The imported Nitrogen extracts and Potassium are to be used as fertiliser for the Maha season. (Bandula)
