President Gotabaya Rajapaksa stressed yesterday that through an Act in Parliament, relevant law can be enacted to prosecute those leaders in the previous government who were held accountable for Easter Sunday attacks by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI).
Indicating that it was one of the recommendations from the PCoI that the government, including the former President, Prime Minister and the Cabinet should be held responsible for the attack, President noted that the matter has been referred to the Parliament, the Attorney General, and the CID to take further actions.
The government has the two-thirds majority (2/3) required for this purpose. Therefore, the President urged the Opposition to be vigilant when making demands and not to deceive the people.
The President made these remarks addressing the ceremony held to declare open the “Golden Gate Kalyani,” which was constructed with advanced technology, on Wednesday evening (24).
