To boost rubber production in Sri Lanka, the government has introduced a fertilizer subsidy for rubber cultivators.
Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry Mahinda Amaraweera revealed that due to years of inadequate fertilizer application, the annual latex yield has dropped from 100,000 to 65,000 metric tons.
In response, the Minister instructed the State Fertilizer Company to lower the price of a 50 kg bag of fertilizer from Rs. 9,500 to Rs. 5,500, with the subsidy available starting this week.
Similar support is already provided for paddy, tea, coconut, and cinnamon cultivation.
