President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s proposal to establish a “Children of Gaza Fund” to assist victims of the escalating Gaza violence has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers yesterday (Feb. 26).
According to a statement released by the President’s Media Division (PMD), all government agencies and ministries have been instructed to be a part of this fund instead of participating in Iftar celebrations.
Hence, a USD 1 million donation from the Government will be given in aid of impacted children in Gaza by authorized United Nations (UN) organizations.
The PMD said that public contributions are also welcomed for this purpose.
Since October 7, Israeli attacks on Gaza have resulted in at least 29,782 fatalities and 70,043 injuries, according to foreign media.
Israel has battered the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by Palestinian group Hamas in October, in which the revised death toll in Israel from the October 7 attacks lies at 1,139.
