The Government is to request foreign diplomatic missions to refrain from issuing visas to doctors in state service who are trying to leave the country for employment purposes without approved leave, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.
Minister Rambukwella was responding to a question raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in Parliament about some 500 doctors leaving the country this year.
He said that among other steps to discourage medical staff leaving the country without authorization, the airport will also be informed not to allow them the country if they do not have approved leave.
He said that steps also be taken to blacklist doctors who leave the country without approved leave.
