Gun shots fired at Imran Khan

News

Gunshots were fired Thursday at a rally held by Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan in Gujranwallah, Pakistan, according to a spokesperson for Khan’s PTI party.

Azhar Mashwani, an official with Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, confirmed to Al Jazeera on Thursday that the politician was shot in the leg but was not in danger. Six others, including another politician, Faisal Javed Khan, were also reportedly injured in the attack.

Chaotic scenes broke out near Imran Khan's reception camp at Allahwala Chowk in Gujranwala after gunshots were fired, reported local channel Geo News. It said several people were injured.

The incident, about 200 km from Islamabad, brought back chilling memories of how former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was shot dead during a rally in 2007.
