The island-wide strike by the health sector trade unions collective entered its second day crippling services at hospitals across the country.
Upul Rohana, President of the Paramedical Services Front (PMSF), said that a decision regarding whether or not to carry out the strike will be made later today during a meeting that trade union representatives are expected to attend.
Health workers chose to continue their union activities because the government did not respond favorably to their requests.
A nationwide one-day strike by seventy-two health sector trade unions occurred on February 1 over unsolved concerns, including a demand for the payment of an inconvenience allowance similar to that of doctors.
However, the All-Ceylon Nurses’ Union chose not to participate in the planned strike action.
Meanwhile, Tri-force personnel were deployed to state hospitals nationwide to ensure uninterrupted provision of essential medical services during the island-wide strike.
