A heat index advisory has been issued to Western, Southern, Eastern, North-central provinces and Kurunegala, Killinochchi, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu districts.
The Meteorology Department issuing the warning of the heat index, said the temperature felt on the human body is expected to increase up to “caution” level.
Heat cramps and heat exhaustion is possible for those exposed to the heat in the above areas.
The Department requests the public to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activities, take breaks in the shade when outdoors and never leave children unattended in vehicles.
Wearing light weight and light coloured clothing is also recommended.
The Sun will be directly over the country till April 15.
