Heavy rains above 100mm likely in eight provinces

News

The Department of Meteorology noted that showers or thundershowers are likely in most areas of the island today due to the presence of a low-level atmospheric disturbance across the island.

Parts of Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Northern, North-western, North-Central and Eastern Provinces are expected to see heavy rainfall over 100mm.

Besides, showers or thundershowers are on the cards at multiple places in the sea areas surrounding the island.

Winds will be North-easterly or inconstant in direction and will strike at 20-30 KMPH.

Wind speed may advance into 40-45 KMPH in the sea areas off shores extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanthurai.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanthurai will be moderately rough.

The rest of the sea areas are expected to tone down although strong gusts of wind and turbulent waters are foreseen during thunderstorms transiently.
