Heavy rains with strong winds are expected in the next two days as the South-west monsoon was gradually establishing over the country.
Accordingly, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Southern provinces.
Heavy falls above 100 mm can be expected at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, the Meteorology Department said.
“Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern and North-central provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night”, the Department said.
Wind speed can be increased up to 40-50 kmph at times over the island and especially wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times in the western slope of the Central hills, Northern, North-central, North-western and Uva provinces and in Hambantota district, the Meteorology department added.
Meanwhile, the Ratnapura and Kalutara districts have been receiving heavy rains since Sunday (23).
