The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with funding from the Government of Japan, has partnered with the Alliance Development Trust (ADT) to support women and youth in 12 districts through a USD 5.2 million project.
The programme focuses on social cohesion, gender equality, sexual and reproductive health, and climate action. Organisers say over 2,000 women and young people have been reached.
Two initiatives, Social Cohesion Grants and Climate Innovation Grants, were launched in collaboration with 11 local organisations.
Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Eranga Gunasekara, Embassy of Japan First Secretary Kanji Ohashi, UNFPA Representative Kunle Adeniyi, and ADT CEO Godfrey Yogarajah attended the launch.
Officials said the project aims to strengthen community resilience by promoting inclusion, health awareness, and climate-related initiatives.
The event featured panel discussions, performances, and community activities.
