Showers or thundershowers will occur at times today (3) in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, the Met Department stated. It added that heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night.
Strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The Met Department requested the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, the sun is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28th of August to 06th of September due to its apparent southward relative motion. The nearest places of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (03) are Negombo, Gampola, Bibile and Akkaraipattu about 12.09 noon.
