The Colombo High Court today acquitted MP Namal Rajapaksa and five other suspects, over their alleged involvement in laundering money amounting to Rs.30 million through Gowers Corporate Services (Pvt) Limited .
They were acquitted without calling of evidence.
The MP and the five others were indicted under the Money Laundering Act.
High court judge Nawaratne Marasinghe noted that the evidence provided by the complainant’s witnesses could not be accepted by the courts, and are not trust worthy evidence, and the courts would not look into the status of the accused but see whether there are prosecution evidence that could confirm the indictment leveled at the accused.
MP Rajapaksa was accused that he invested Rs 30 million rupees which had been illegally earned by investing in Gowers Corporate services (pvt) ltd.
The others indicted were Directors Indika Karunajeewa, Sujani Bogollagama, Iresha Silva, Nithya Senani Samaranayake, and Gowers Corporate Services (Pvt) Limited on 11 counts.
