The debate on the Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions) Bill will be held next Thursday if the Supreme Court's determination on the Bill is received by the Speaker before next Wednesday (2nd February).
The Local Authorities Elections (Special Provisions) Bill provides for the calling of fresh nominations and the holding of elections in respect of certain local authorities where the elections of such local authorities have been called and postponed.
The Bill was presented to Parliament on January 9 by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government.
The Bill has been challenged before the Supreme Court on grounds that several of its provisions are inconsistent with the Constitution.
The decision to hold the debate on the Bill was made at the meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business which met earlier this week, provided the SC determination is sent to Parliament on time.
Meanwhile, the House will meet from 5- 7 February, and several regulations will be debated in the House.
