The IGP has been instructed to direct the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the threats allegedly levelled at MP Harsha de Silva.
The directive was issued by Tiran Alles, Minister of Public Security.
Dr. de Silva, Chairman of the Committee On Public Finance, told parliament earlier in the day that he was facing undue threats regarding a million-dollar visa issuing process.
Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa also expressed concerns over threats faced by the MP during his investigation into the VFS deal, He claimed government MPs allegedly targeted him.
Dr. de Silva told the Speaker he hadn't received direct death threats, but was troubled over what has transpired.
"They haven't explicitly threatened to kill me, but if you were in my shoes, you would understand the gravity of the situation," he told the Speaker.
“I addressed intimidation & false accusations during the #VFS inquiry. Despite these challenges, my dedication to #transparency & #accountability remains strong. We've accomplished much, including key financial reforms. Watch speech: https://bit.ly/4bVw4h", Dr de Silva posted on X (formerly twitter).
