The Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya has ordered an inquiry into social media reports which claims that the Public Security Ministry Secretary Senior DIG (Retired) Ravi Seneviratne had told a Parliamentary Committee that the mastermind of the Easter Sunday bombings had been idenfiied and that India was behind it.
The Police Media Division in a statement said that the investigation has been launched to identify the persons responsible for posting of the particular news.
The report said that Mr Seneviratne had made the comment when he was called before the Parliamentary High Posts Committee.
The Police statement said that Mr Seneviratne at no point made a statement to the effect that India was behind the Easter Sunday attack.
Meanwhile opposition MP Nizam Kariapper in a message posted on ‘X’ (formerly twitter) said that during the High Posts Committee, in response to a question posed by him Mr Seneviratna stated: “We have identified the main conspirator behind the Easter Sunday attack.”
The issue was raised in Parliament too by SJB MP Dayasiri Jayasekera today and he called for an explanation about the reported statements.
