IMF agreement, other aid programmes pushed back due to political uncertainty

News

The staff level agreement that Sri Lanka had been hoping to reach with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by the end of July has been pushed back by at least a month due to the prevailing political instability, a senior Treasury official told Timesonline.

Meanwhile, there will also be problems importing fertiliser beyond the 65, 000 Metric Tonnes that had been imported from India already as donors such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and others have pushed back approving funding for further stocks by at least a month.

The World Food Programme (WFP) too has informed that it will be forced to push back funding on aid programmes for a month owing to the present situation, the official further said.
