In order to mark the Sinhala-Tamil New Year, a New Year festival consisting of many folk games was organised by at Colombo International Airport in Ratmalana and held at the airport premises over the weekend.
The event was presided over by Major General (retired) G.A. Chandrasiri, President of Airports and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Pvt. Ltd., and organized by Ratmalana Airport Manager Mr. Aruna Rajapaksa and the staff of the airport, with the support of domestic aviation companies that provide services at the airport.
There were also many folk games such as weaving mats, weaving coconut branches, Kotta Pora, Musical chair competition, marking an eye to the elephant, bursting balloons, running with the lime on the spoon, eating buns, running on sacks, and tug-of-war were held.
