Red Notices have been issued through INTERPOL for 129 Sri Lankans who have been issued arrest warrants by courts for various crimes but have fled overseas, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
He added that Blue Notices have been issued through INTERPOL for 87 Sri Lankans in connection with various crimes.
An INTERPOL Red Notice seeks the location and arrest of wanted persons wanted for prosecution or to serve a sentence.
A Blue Notice seeks to collect additional information about a person’s identity, location or activities in relation to a crime.
About 40 of the 129 Sri Lankans against whom Red Notices have been issued are wanted in Sri Lanka for financial fraud and related crimes, the police spokesman revealed.
DIG Rohana further said that steps are being taken to secure the extradition of alleged underworld figure "Kimbula Ela Guna," who was arrested recently by police in India.
