The University Grants Commission (UGC) today agreed to meet representatives of the Inter University Federation (IUSF) shortly after Police used water cannons to disperse a protest march organized by the students near Lipton Circus in Colombo.
IUSF representative Wasantha Mudalige claimed they were only peacefully heading towards the UGC building when water cannons were used on them.
However, Police said they were heading towards the UGC in a protest march and they were compelled to disperse them as they were causing a traffic congestion.
Student leader Mudalige said that they were going to raise the issue about the detention of Kelaniya University student leaders.
