Illegally imported Rs 55 million worth vehicles caught

Illegally imported 12 motor vehicles valued at Rs 55,000,000 have been apprehended by the Customs Risk Management Unit (RMU) on December 23, 2020. This consignment arrived in Sri Lanka on 23.12.2020 in three forty-foot containers from Singapore declared as ‘General Parts’ in the Bill of Landing. The cargo weight was declared as 12,140 kg. The goods were imported under the name of a foreign embassy officer.

One suspect was apprehended and produced before the Colombo Magistrate on January 7, 2021 and was remanded till January 20, 2021.

Further investigations are being carried out by Superintendent of Customs Mr Mahinda Siriwardhana, Mr Nishantha Mirihagalla, and Assistant superintendant of Customs Mr Kelum Thushara, Mr Indunil Bandara, Mr Pulasthi Lakshan and Mr Tharindu Paranamana, under the supervision of Deputy Director of Customs Mr Sudath De Silva, and direction of Director of Customs Mr D.A.S. Chndrasiri and Additional Director General of Customs Mr S. Anadaeaswaran.
