State Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya states that a gazette notification easing import restrictions on buses, trucks, and lorries used for public transportation will be issued this week.
However financial analysts predict that the import of additional vehicles will be further postponed given the current level of foreign exchange reserves.
They also emphasize that the acceleration of vehicle imports could cause the US dollar exchange rate to increase once more.
The recent guidelines on the preparation of the budget for 2024 say that vehicle import restrictions will continue for next year.
