The Jaffna Kite Festival, which takes place every year to coincide with Thai Pongal, was held yesterday. Large crowds were present this year as well to witness the spectacle where massive and colourful kites soared into the air above Vigneswara Grounds in Valvettithurai.
There were some unique and topical designs this year as well including a kite made in the shape of the doomed "Titan" submersible that was destroyed. The Value Added Tax (VAT) also made an appearance in the shape of another kite. Other designs included race cars, buildings and birds of all kinds.
