Several political parties held May Day rallies that drew large crowds on Sunday. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) held a May Day rally in Colombo at the conclusion of their six-day protest march from Kandy to Colombo.
The rally was held with the participation of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and other senior SJB MPs.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) did not hold a May Day rally this year. Instead, trade unions affiliated to the SLPP held a meeting in Nugegoda. The meeting was attended by several MPs who also function as the party's senior trade unionists.
