The newly renovated Prime Minister' Office, "Sirimathipaya" was opened today (20) under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Prime Minster's Office was renovated by the Sri Lanka Navy under the supervision of former Prime Minister's Secretary Gamini Senarath, based on a concept by Premier Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The two storey building where the PM's office is situated was built in 1916 by Albert Emmanuel De Silva for his son Sir Albert Ernest De Silva. After his death, his family bequeathed the building to the Government in the 1960s.
This is the first time that "Sirimathipaya," which is over 100 years old, has been renovated in 44 years and all renovation work has been done according to the original plans, the President's Media Division said.
