Non-academic staff members attached to state universities held a token strike today demanding that authorities take steps to resolve their salary anomaly issue.
Protesters said that when basic salaries in the state sector rose by 107% in 2016, the salaries in the state university sector only increased by 92%. As such, there was a 15% anomaly between the salaries of university employees and others in the state sector.
The unions have launched their TU action demanding that authorities take steps to rectify this salary anomaly issue, they said. They added that they intend to intensify their TU action if the issue is not resolved.
