Several areas in the South including Matara and Galle districts have been badly affected due to the flash floods coupled with strong winds since Sunday. Among the total affected persons of 2000, 1700 of them were from Matara alone due to flooding, according to latest situation report from Disaster Management Centre(DMC).
Among the other districts affected were Galle, Trincomalee, Puttalam, Kurunegala, Kegalle, Ratnapura and Gampaha.
Meanwhile, Relief Teams from DMC and the Navy have deployed relief teams in certain areas to provide assistance and support to those who are affected by floods in the area since Sunday.
Relief Teams are currently deployed at Galle, Akuressa, Kotapola, Nagoda, Thawalama, Kamburupitiya and Athuraliya areas, to ensure affected people are provided with essential items.
