About 200 expectant mothers took part in a special COVID vaccination drive at the Municipal Maternity Home in Colombo 15 today (1). The programme was exclusively for pregnant women within the city.
Apart from vaccinating, random blood samples were obtained from pregnant women for further tests on the fast spreading Delta variant in Colombo city.
Several pregnant women around the country have died from the virus just after delivery. Last week also reported the youngest death, a five month old fetus from a COVID-infected pregnant woman in Gampola.
Meanwhile, a pregnant mother who contracted the virus eight weeks ago gave birth to triplets in Puttalam. According to hospital sources, the mother and the three babies are in good health.
