Eight persons have been arrested in Chavakachcheri, Jaffna while attempting to transport sand obtained illegally, police said.
According to Chavakachcheri police, the suspects were arrested along with eight tippers full of sand. The suspects have been using fake transport licences to transport sand from Killinochchi to Jaffna frequently.
Police said an investigation is underway to find those involved in issuing fake licences. The suspects are to be produced before Jaffna Magistrate Courts today. (Pix and story by Romesh Madushanka)
