A 31-year-old mother has given birth to three boys and three girls in a sextuplets birth at a private hospital in Colombo.
Hospital sources said that the mother and the infants, weighing from 1.6 kg to 800 g are all reportedly stable and healthy.
The caesarean section was performed by a medical team led by Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Prof. Tiran Dias, ably assisted by Neonatologists Dr. Nalin Gamathige and Dr. Buddima Jayasinghe at the Ninewells Hospital.
This is supposedly the first time a mother has given birth to sextuplets in Sri Lanka.
