Indian delegation visit SL to discuss on further monetary assistance

A delegation led by the Indian Foreign Ministry’s Secretary, Vinay Kwatra visited Sri Lanka today to discuss further providing monetary assistance.

The delegation which arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport at 09.20 am directly reached Colombo to Meet the president President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and politicians.

The Meetings were held to consider whether they could provide monetary assistance. 

The Foreign Ministry Secretary Vinay Kwatra has stated that India would extend their full support to Sri Lanka as a close friend during the difficult situation.

Mr Kwatra extended these sentiments while meeting with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Sri Lanka had already received fuel, medicine and fertilizer under credit lines.

President Media Division issuing statement said that the delegation after reviving the credit lines had said that both Indian Government and the political authorities are committed to extend support to Sri Lanka 

President Gotabaya Rajspsksa said that the people of the country as well as the government are extending their gratitude to Indian governments and the people of India.                                              

There were extended talks held between the president and the delegation regarding the future plans of the Indian assistance scheme to stabilize the economy and create normalcy.  

The Indian High Commission issuing a Press release said that during meeting with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, they exchanged of views on the current economic situation in Sri Lanka as well as India’s ongoing support.

 During the meeting with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the delegation had an in-depth discussion on the Sri Lankan economy and efforts undertaken by the Government of Sri Lanka towards achieving economic recovery.

At the meeting with Prime Minister both parties highlighted the importance of promoting India-Sri Lanka investment partnership including in the fields of infrastructure, connectivity, renewable energy and deepening economic linkages between the two countries.

Secretary of Indian Economic relations Ajay Seth, Chief economic adviser V Anamtha Nageswaran, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay, Deputy High Commissioner Vinod K Jacob), Joint Secretary , Indian Ocean Region, Ministry of External Affairs. Kartick Pande were present at the meeting.
