The Supreme Court has ruled that the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill can be passed with a simple Parliamentary majority.
Announcing the Supreme Court's determination into the Bill, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena told Parliament today that the Court has held that neither the Bill nor any of its provisions are inconsistent with Article 12 or any of its provisions of the Constitution.
Accordingly, the Bill can be validly passed with a simple majority in Parliament, he said.
