Interim administration faces uphill task of showing majority in parliament
Sri Lanka is likely to be governed by a new interim administration following the resignation of entire Cabinet of Ministers amidst mounting public anger against a failing and desperate government in Sri Lanka which is in a serious economic crisis at present, reliable official sources aid.
Taking a 360 degree turn from present, beleaguered President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has informed the 41 ruling party MPs who became an independent group in Parliament to propose the names of a new Prime Minister and 15 member cabinet of ministers forming an new interim administration.
The President has made this request at a closed door discussion with this 41 rebel group of the ruling party held at the Presidential Secretariat on Sunday.
He told these MPs that when forming such an interim administration to govern the country, they will have to show their majority in parliament.
However the possibility of forming such an administration will not have the support of the opposition and it was a mission impossible under the present circumstances. (Bandula)
