The Government Nursing Officers’ Association has initiated a 24-hour token strike across the island starting from 7:00 a.m. today (17) due to unproductive discussions with the Minister of Health and State Minister for Finance regarding an additional allowance.
Meanwhile health trade unions that launched a token strike on January 16 have temporarily halted their action at 6:30 a.m. this morning.
Paramedical Services Front (PMSF) President Upul Rohana has warned they would resume trade union action if authorities fail to address their issues within a week.
Accordingly, around 100,000 healthcare personnel, including paramedical services, hospital secretaries, administrative officers, health administrative assistants, minor staff, and 75 other trade unions, would join an island-wide strike, Mr. Rohana added.
They are demanding an allowance similar to that granted to Doctors recently.
