With electricity supply being restored in several areas in Colombo, the restoration of power to other parts of the country will take at least three hours, a senior official from Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.
Earlier today, the country experienced an islandwide power outage due to the failure of a transmission line disrupting power supply to most parts of the country, CEB said.
Meanwhile, the water supply to Colombo and other suburban areas have also been affected due to the power disruption, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board said.
Earlier today a senior official of the Ministry of Power said all electricity breakdowns will be attended to immediately as only a section of CEB engineers are taking part in the work to rule campaign. The CEB Engineers’ Union warned that the work-to-rule campaign will have an impact on electricity distribution after office hours.
“It is only junior grade engineers who are on strike. We have received the assurance from senior engineers that they will work to restore power if breakdowns take place after office hours,” he said.
The official said the Ministry is unable to make any decision on the Yugadanavi power plant issue due to an ongoing court case.
