Israeli Govt is to offer 2,000 job opportunities for female caregivers from Sri Lanka

News

The Israeli government is determined to offer 2,000 job opportunities for female caregivers from Sri Lanka this year, the Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry said.

A discussion with regard to this agreement recently took place with Minister Manusha Nanayakkara after a special delegation from Israel.

During the meeting, the Minister made a request from the delegation to offer more job opportunities for Sri Lankan caregivers, and the officials acknowledged by assuring the Minister that their country will recruit 2,000 female caregivers from Sri Lanka this year.

The delegation highlighted the fact that, in line with the existing culture in Israel, women have more opportunities for patient care, and the number of opportunities for male caregivers is limited; accordingly, the delegation also requested the Minister to specifically draw attention to females when providing training in the caregiver sector in due course.

The Minister made certain that only those who surpass the relevant qualifications will be recruited for training. The delegation notified the Minister that the local workers with English language proficiency, who have earned professional training, will always have the possibility to apply for employment opportunities in Israel. They said the Israeli government is ready to give opportunities to up to 8,000 qualified workers annually. Throughout the discussion, both parties emphasized the significance of recruiting workers through a transparent process.

Minister Nanayakkara also forwarded requests to Israeli representatives to open up opportunities for the private sector to hire caregivers for jobs in Israel.
